Information in the CNRS is controlled, not just monitored.
Witness the difference between Joseph Illand, Defense Security
Officer (FSD) at the CNRS since 2003, responsible for the protection of
fundamental interests for the nation, and Vincent Geisser, a political
scientist and expert on Islam. This is called before instances of the
CNRS on 29 June for "serious breach of the obligation of discretion"
according to the invitation (Mediapart source).
A letter was sent in response by Valérie Pécresse to Benbassa Esther,
director of studies at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, Wednesday
10 June. The minister refuses to focus on the case but says she will
follow its progress and recognizes her responsibility to "guarantee
freedom of thought and opinion researchers". The complaint of Mr. Illand and CNRS disciplinary proceedings initiated by the management
of the research institution is from a sentence written in a private email by Mr. Geisser. He compared M.
Illand to a Nazi, but the sentence was cited on blogs. We can only be
satisfied with the wrath of Mr. Illand which fortunately did not
recognize himself in this description. However, Mr. Geisser speaks about a "harassment" from M. Illand that would persist for several years.
Moreover, this case arises just after to Mr. Geisser support, last April 9, to
a doctoral student in Toulouse dismissed for having "continued to wear
a full veil covering her hair, to mark clearly belonging to a
religion." Correspondence between both men is related to this case. Mr. Geisser also
mentions an email sent by Mr. Illand in 2008 or 2008, that reproach to an other colleague to "better
deal criticizing Islam than Christianity".
A Collective for
safeguarding the intellectual freedom of researchers and teachers of
the public called to sign a petition in support of Mr. Geisser:

I would like me to sign this petition. Thanks a lot !
